Joe Shochet, pronounced “shock-it” and rhymes with rocket, has been developing world-class and award-winning children’s educational games for over 20 years. His preferred language? That would be coding, and lucky us, he shares it with our kids daily via codeSpark, his edtech company that created the No. 1 ranking coding app to teach young kids (more than 30 million of them in 190 countries) about computer science via interactive gameplay. (His codeSpark recently merged with Homer.)
Before that he led the creation of ToonTown Online for Disney - and helped create the first version of Alice3D, still in use at over 300 universities for Computer Science 101.
We are pleased as punch that he is helping us develop our digital strategy - and make our interactive paper products (like books and posters) respond intuitively for our kiddos, like an app minus the screen, so our youngest can get started early. (Yes, we advocate ASAP, while in the womb if possible.)
Joe lives with his wife, an incredible teacher (and woman/mamas/grandmama), north of Los Angeles.
Fun Fact: One of their 3 children is also a teacher - of English - in South Korea, where he is raising a bilingual child with his Korean wife.
